Nine arrested over K’nawa attack

Police have arrested 9 people for their involvement in the attack on UNP Urban councilor Janaka Naulla and damaging 3 houses in Kolonnawa early this morning. They were presented in court and remanded till the 18th of this month.

The gang had used iron clubs to carry out the attack. UNP Urban councilor Janaka Naulla was severely inured in the attack and had been reported to have sustained critical head and abdominal injuries.

His wife Inoka Kumudani told Daily Mirror online that the attackers had even threatened to set fire to her and her children.

The attack is believed to have been prompted after councilor Janka Naulla organized a presidential election rally for General Sarath Fonseka in the Kollonnawa area last evening.
UNP urban council member Chithra Dias’s residence and Provincial Council member K. A. Sunil residence was also attacked.

Police are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.

come on guys, dont blame the govt. and the police. after all they are trying to conduct a free and fair election and in the process come back to power. so, what's wrong with that? a score of houses, political offices, vehicles being damaged or burnt and a few murders, thuggery are so minor things in a free and fair election we really shouldn't be complaining at all.
just look at the returns for those pristine white and clean as a whistle politicians who come into power aftrer a free and fair election. we shouldn't deny them their dues.

who said that Sri Lanka is a war free country practically there is alkways clashes taking place daily these last few days yet there is a war taking place between minister's thugs and innocent civilians and to add toi this it's sad to see our puppet police officers are doing nothing but always conducting investigations which never has a result
what is the action the president and his jumbo cabinet ministers taking to prevent theese violence?????

It is really sad that this election is turning out to be so violent. Sri Lanka is over 60 years old and has been a continous democracy. Yet, we don't seem to possess the will needed to hold a peaceful election or change of government in a democratic/non-violent manner.

Just heard (12.30pm) on TV news from JHU priest that these are SLFP supporters paid by the opposition to discredit the President. What convoluted logic - Musawada from a priest - not surprising he is a high up in the JHU.

Keep them behind bars atleast until the 27th for a dual purpose - to avoid further attacks and to reduce the votes by atleast 9 and this will make the attackers (from both sides) ofcourse without arbitrary arrests) think twice before they attack the opponents.
