Former Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka speaking at the rally held at Hyde Park this evening said that the executive presidency would have been abolished if ‘victory was not robbed at the last presidential election’.
“If they didn’t threaten us and intimidate our families and supporters and rob us of our victory the executive Presidency would have been abolished by now,” he said.
Fonseka made these remarks at the rally organized by the United Bikkhu Front held at the Hyde Park.
Fonseka also said that a suitable common candidate for the upcoming presidential election should be groomed in order to face a possible early presidential election.
UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara, Ashoka Abeysinghe, Paitha Thewarapperuma, former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva and a host of other civil and political leaders participated in the rally.
