A person by the name Noel Mudalige believe to be JVP dissident Kumar Gunaratnam had surrendered to police last night and presently awaiting the departure at the Bandaranaike International airport, police spokesman Ajith Rohana said
The Police said that the abductors had left the victim in Kolonnawa this morning after which the victim had walked to the CCD and identified himself. Premakumar Gunarathnam was then taken to the airport under Police protection and was sent to Australia at 730 am.
Last night the Australian high commission in Sri Lanka requested the government to look in to the disappearance of a man named Noel Mudalige after a top government official denied any knowledge about Kumar Gunarathnam arriving in the country. Noel Mudalige was believed to be the alias under which Kumar Gunarathnam entered into the country.

Govt says it never arrested anyone nor mention about any crimes he already commited or going to commit. Then why he surrended. In that case every innocent citizen should surrender isn't it?

Gunaratnam and Atigala are so lucky to be back...
Premakeerthi Alwis, Wijeya Kumarathunga and Many others were not so lucky and denied the freedom of expression by the same people got lucky yesterday...
Same people slashed mouth of others for speaking a different view against them and even funerals had to be in disgrace..
Same people crying for the freedom to express today...
Does Country need Wijeya/Premakeerthi or more Gunarathanams...?
btw : Gunarathanam's are known for using two names...like Keerthi Wihjebahu...

Do sincere people possess different passports and use different names to travel around the world? Only crooks and people who have a lot to hide do. This guy is up to no good. GoSL must ensure that he is never ever permitted to put his foot ever again in Sri Lanka.

What you are saying is similar to what Martin Niemoeller said about the Nazi and the German people
"First they came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, but by that time, no one was left to speak up."

If he came on a fake passport, with a fake name he should have been jailed and then deported, he should not have been send on a flight to Australia with perks, If a Sri Lankan enters Australia with a forged passport, overstays his visa and is known associate of a group that killed thousands of people (JVP) he would have been jailed in Australia! You can hate the gov but understand that their is a Law in Sri Lanka.

An internet news sheet forum is a wonderful platform to observe the real character of a nation, presuming that each writer thinks of himself as being a representative of the nation, which I feel confident that he does. This Daily Mirror forum is a great example of such a platform and its good to see a nation so exhuberantly expressing itself.

Leave out Gunaratnam's sneaking into Sri Lanka a few months back under a different name and married earlier in another name and obtained a passport in yet another name, 'The Hindu' alleged that he was a leader of JVP in the East in 1988 he had killed 14 IPKF soldiers while they were trying to disarm LTTE.
As in most other kidnapping cases in Sri Lanka, there is proof beyond doubt that either this Gunaratnam or alias Mudalige must have eloped with Dimutu Artigala who is said to have gone missing 10 hours before him but not reported to police until 10 hours later for a quickie or organised their own kidnappings to gain publicity for their now appear to be a flagging political cause.

Look at this, This Australian came to SL under a fake or a alias. Then lived here under another name. Then too part in active politics. How can a foreigner allowed to do politics here? ( let alone a revolution) - Can a SL on a visa in australia do any of this?- do politics there? use other names? How fair is that?

Dear John
You are right. What KA did was wrong. So what did the UK government do to him?
Two wrongs do not make it right. KA and others who did wrong will eventually answer in this life or next.
My concern is why are people talking about human rights of a crooked individual whose party (or parties) have heaped misery on the majority of the nation. What about the rights of those people who are not part of the political goons. If you thought I was supporting the Government, then you are wrong. My worry is why everybody is so taken up on the 'plight' of activists while the general public are at the receiving end of all politically motivated oportunists? There is an elected Government. Let it run the course and if they are not good change them at the next elections. If you are a local do not rock the boat mid stream. If you are not a local, mind your own affairs.

If a Sri Lankan had been caught overstaying visa in Sydney, Australia, Australian Immigration Department would have sent him to the Vilawood detention camp to be detained until deportation. They would not have allowed the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to take that person personally to the airport. Why did the Sri Lankan Government surrender to the Australian High Commissioner and to the Canberra Foreign Office and allow the Australian High Commissioner to accompany this character to the airport? No other country would have allowed such a thing to happen. Gunaratnam or what ever name he goes by should have been sent to the courts to be dealt with appropriately.
