The operation of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant had been shut down sporadically for 35 days, since it started electricity generation on March 22, 2011, due to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work and delays in coal supply, Parliament was informed today. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)

Three months supply of coal should be the minimum stock level for a coal plant and normally such plant the maintenance is done while the plant is running and such plants are stopped for non running maintenance work only once in about 11 months or so for it takes about 3 days for the boiler to be cooled and it takes about 3 days for a cold start plant to come up to full load should not there be a inquiry on this

Chinese sold up a wrong plant - when coal are getting pricy in the international market in a location difficult to pump coal to the plant. This is a national waste! and I wonder if this plant will ever work - one of those Chinese investment thing.

We end up paying for this for generations!

This is our first plant. We are still at the learrning process and lot of training is required. Main thing government has been able to provide electricity without interruption, well done.

Dear All,

We are in the era, in which the cost of generation goes up drastically because of increase in coal, handling and operation cost. It would be viable only when the generation is carried out in a large scale like super critical thermal power stations. Further the plant has to run without minimum break down for which you need a better quality plant and a reliable supplier.
