Out going police Chief Mahinda Balasuriya today said that incidents similar to the Katunayake FTZ clash should never take place and that he was not satisfied with how the police reacted. (SD)

V Saturday, 18 June 2011 03:34 AM
it was your responsibility to make the police more disciplined.During your time you recruited lot of people who were supporters from politicians and now you are tell you are not satisfied. I was participated to ASP interview , even I was a son of a police officer , I failed because I was not a member of x organisation. If you really not satisfied come take your position and .do things in right way

So if you are not satisfied how the police reacted, then you are responsible for their actions.....Then you deserve to be sacked and not just resign ...By this statement, you are admitting that you have an incompetent police force under you...

When Police men are taken in they must be properly trained and continuously retained and brought up to date on the new laws. For example the traffic police don;t seem to know the laws though they are on duty at every junction pedestrian crossing ,traffic lights ect .people & motorist break the law as if these fellows are not there! When I am on the road I see one in every three vehicle driver using his phone and these dummys dont see it even though while dirving I see it. This shows that these officers do not know the law.Dr. Balasooriya should have done some thing about this situation saying he is not satisfied shows the stupidity of the man who held the position of IGP of Sri Lanka !

Obviously. The way he acted as the IGP, how can he expect the junior ranks to act impartially?
He was the worst IGP that Sri Lanka has ever produced.

The Police reacted that way when unfortunately you were the IGP. Do you mean to say, that there were others on top of you who gave direct orders to the cops to shoot, and if that is the case you owe a duty to the public who paid your salary, to come out with the truth even at this late stage.

This is a funny situation! This man had an official retirement ceremony yesterday. How can it be when he had officially RESIGNED his post taking responsibility for the irresponsible and disreputable action of the Police @ Katunayake, UNLESS all this CONFIRMS the drama that was enacted!!! Yes, all this can only happen in this "MIRACLE OF ASIA"!

Kella, You should say something like, 'ane ennako poddak wadaaganna' He is totally responsible for what happened. Who cares if he satisfied or not, no one is satisfied with him.

This is all the result politicizing the police force in which process you too played a critical role. You cannot escape liability just by retiring. It is still not too late for you to come out clean by disclosing as to who gave orders to fire at the Katunayake demonstartors.

thalaya Friday, 17 June 2011 06:31 PM
No IGP will ever be able to discharge their duties properly because of the lack of an independent police commission. Police force is corrupt from the top down because of political interference. It is endemic and I see no reason to be optimistic. Balasuriya was just elevated to that post to fill a vacancy.
