Intel chief slams media disclosure

National Intelligence Chief Major General Kapila Hendawitharana, speaking to reporters this morning, said that the disclosure by the media of LTTE assets was the “third betrayal” of the nation as it was hampering efforts by the government to aquire LTTE property.

The intelligence chief said that only one LTTE ship had been taken over by the government so far and that acquiring LTTE assets was a time consuming and difficult process and the media disclosure on LTTE assets has led the government to face some problems.

He also charged that the disclosure was another great betrayal similar to the Millennium city episode where several intelligence officers were killed after their whereabouts was disclosed in the media and the alleged claims that some senior LTTE officials who had surrendered were killed by the military during the last stages of the war. How dare you blame the media for this - it was the Govt Military Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella who disclosed these details to teh media !!!! that was to get the buyiing in of teh masses and to tel people that how efficient the Govt is - but now it has come behind them BUT BLAMES TEH MEDIA ??????????? How dare you do this ....

do not disturb them.ational intelegence have done a good job so far. Not only SF they also contributed to our war victory. In Ranil wicramasinghes cease fire period how many ingelegent officers were killed. Ranil always questioned goverment on LTTE assets. He might have wanted to disturb them. Now Its up to JVP. What the media knew of the assets is not that confidential information - more likely common knowledge - unless the intelligence people leaked confidential information to the media.

Can't say anything. It is either a betrayal or a conspiracy. If the intelligence people cannot keep a secret then there is no
"INTELLIGENCE" or they are not very "INTELLIGENT". Look inside where the leak is. By the way as I see it this is nothing but sheer third grade tact tics to re open the now almost useless white flag scenario. Forces should not get involved in "POLITICS". This is a very dangerous trend. Let's hope the sanity prevails.

It is unfortunate that we loose vision of national goals, security and interests and soverignity for a few thousand votes. It is our own so called political leaders, and not the common man who is responsible for this situation. Some disgruntled elements (mostly half baked and with no national feeling) too think it is a fashion to sacrfice anything for petty gains. We as a nation has a built-in mechanism of destruction.

Not only 'tiger' assets any amount of money taken and stashed in western secret accounts never be recoverable as it happened in other nation's corrupt rulers cases; when they die or deposed the money would be frozen pending inquiry and sometimes it would be declared filthy lucre and denied access to any of the possible heirs. The same corporate giants show the way for both the main parties how to undermine tender procedures, parliamentary fiscal policies and exchange controls. Everybody is made corrupt and then they expose if the need arises. It is very difficult to survive in politics without money also it is just a big business. See how much after for horse trading and how much they demand to cross over!

How come any act against the ruling party a 'betrayal'? The disclosure of assets by the media was to prevent it from being misused for the election campaign. besides, the media didn't reveal anything new that the world aleady didn't know.

Accountability and transparency can be camouflaged under the pretext of "betrayals" because then the government does not have to account for such acquisitions.
