Video: Probe on Tissa completed: IGP



Police Chief N.K. Illangakoon today said that investigations into allegations against former Minister Tissa Attanayake over the forged documents created during the January Presidential Election has been completed.

He said the suspects were arrested and the files had been handed over to the Attorney Generals’ Department for legal action.

Investigations were conducted by the Crimes Investigations Division (CID) into four main crimes, including the disappearance of vehicles belonging to the presidential secretariat, the floating armoury registered to Avant Guard Maritime Service, the arrest of notorious drug dealer Wele Suda and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa's wife Shashi Weerawansa, who was arrested for allegedly possessing two forged passports, IGP Illangakoon said.

He made these comments at a new briefing after establishing the police Anti Corruption Crimes Unit to investigate major financial crimes, frauds, unsolicited mega projects, major financial crimes against public property, money laundering, terrorist financing and financial transaction, illegal financial transactions, unlawful enrichments, offences on financial crimes against national security, health and environment.

Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said a special investigation would be held again over the killing of Lasantha Wickramathunga.

Meanwhile, investigations over the assassination of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra have ended and the high court proceedings will take place soon against the suspects including the UPFA parliamentarian Duminda Silva, Rohana said.

About 2783 statements had been recorded over the shooting incident in Welikada which resulted in the death of 27 prisoners.  The magisterial inquiry of the incident is still continuing, he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
