With an overall 55% to 60% voter turnout was reported from the just concluded Western and Southern Provincial Council election, People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) said.
It also said that only about 49% voters have turned up at the polling booths in the Colombo district, which is the lowest from the both provinces while Hambantota was the highest with 61%. Others districts were: Gampha 57%, Matara 58%, Galle 55%, Kalutara 58%.
Meanwhile, addressing a media conference in Colombo soon after the election, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that there were no major election-related incidents of violence reported. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
