A Pakistani national was arrested in Colombo yesterday for attempting to smuggle heroin worth over three million rupees which he swallowed after packing it neatly into 48 condoms, the police said.

“The suspect had arrived from Pakistan on Monday and was at a hotel in Colombo at the time of the arrest following a tip-off,” Excise Superintendent Prabath Jayawickrema told the Daily Mirror online.

The official said after being arrested the 27-year old suspect, who had visited Sri Lanka twice during the Cricket World Cup period was given medicine to expel the packets hidden in his stomach, which weighed 547 grams.
