The government has decided to assign Parliament the task of drafting a political solution to the North-East crisis, informed government sources said yesterday.
It is learnt that President Mahinda Rajapaksa would make a request to the Speaker to appoint an All-Party Select Committee within this week to proceed with the task.
Several political leaders including Minister Douglas Devananda who attached to the government have suggested the government to prepare a political solution for the north east problem through a Parliament select committee.
Sources also confirmed that this matter was discussed further by the President and government allies at the Parliament Complex last Friday before arriving at the decision.
It is also reported that the government has decided to have the political solution prepared by the Parliament Select Committee within a limited time frame which will be implemented after the approval by Parliament. (Ranjith Ananda Jayasinghe)
