Excise duty on liquor has been increased from today, Finance Ministry said. Accordingly the price of a litre of arrack will be increased by Rs.25 to 30 while a litre of beer will be increased by Rs. 10.

If the Government earns from the sale of liquor by way of excise duty it has a legal obligation to ensure that the Liquor manufactured is of quality. Why are there no quality checks on liquor such as by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute.? If it is because of the matata titha policy then stop earning revenue from the production and sale of liquor..
