Colombo Chief Magistrate today extended the detention of former Chief Minister of the Eastern Province Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan till November 4.
Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan was taken into custody by the CID officers for allegedly being involved in the killing of former Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham on the Christmas Eve of 2005.
Chandrakanthan was produced before Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya by the CID and sought the Magistrate’s sanction to extend the 72 hours detention period, which ended today.
Pillayan will be further detained by the CID and interrogated over his alleged involvement in the killing of Joseph Pararajasingham, CID sources said.(T.Farook Thajudeen and Shehan Chamika)
