Regulations applicable to carriageways will be strictly implemented for a week (April 6 to 10) in several areas in Colombo, police said.
Police said adherence of the law would decrease traffic congestion in the city. The law will be implemented as a pilot project and thereafter fully implemented.
Motorists will not be allowed to cross lanes arbitrarily and will have to strictly adhere to rules and regulation pertaining to driving in single lanes. The Department stressed that legal action will be taken against motorists who break this law.
The pilot project will be implemented from Moratuwa to NSA Roundabout of Galle Face Green on the Galle Road, Kollupitiya to Bammbalapitiya on the Duplication Road (R.A. De Mel Mawatha) Borella Senanayeka Junction to Polduwa on the Sri Jayawardanapura Road, Peliyagoda to Kiribathgoda on the Kandy road and Peliyagoda to Negambo on the Wattala Road.
