President to visit China

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will leave to China tomorrow (09) morning on an invitation extended by the President of China Hu Jintao. During his non-state visit President Rajapaksa will attend the opening ceremony of the World University Games “Universiade” to be held in Shenzhen, according to the Director General of the President’s Media Division Bandula Jayasekera.

The agenda of the four day visit includes meetings with President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in Beijing and Shenzhen. President Hu Jintao extended this invitation to President Rajapaksa during his bi-lateral meetings held in St. Petersburg Russia, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, in June.

Although it is not a state visit President Rajapaksa will discuss various issues of by-lateral and unilateral interest with the Chinese dignitaries.

The writing is on the wall, this is not a state visit. He is going at state expense in person to collect 10% and Chinese hospitality.
