Prisoners pardoned

Over 1000 prisoners were pardoned by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today. According to authorities 1312 inmates from prisons around the country were set free today.

Of those released 37 are female prisoners.

A majority of inmates who were released were in prison for being unable to pay fines imposed on them by the courts and inmates who are more than 70 years old. (Daily Mirror online)
