PSM strike continues despite court order

The Joint Council of the Professions Supplementary to Medicine (PSM) said last night it would continue with its strike action despite the court order to suspend the strike, as the Council had not received the court order yet.

PSM General Secretary Saman Jayasekara said the strike would continue until the court order is handed over to them. He also told the Daily Mirror that the rounds of talks with Deputy Health Minister Lalith Dissanayake held last evening ended unsuccessfully and therefore, the PSM had no option but to continue with its trade union action.

The issuance of drugs for indoor and outdoor patients of hospitals around the country was disrupted due to the strike while activities at X-rays rooms, labs and physiotherapy too had come to a standstill.(Sanath Desmond)
