Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today asked Parliament whether the government had decided to ban the social network site facebook or limit access to it.
Mr. Wickremesinghe said speculation was rife that the government was intending to do it, but, Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardane said there was no such decision taken by the government.(KB & YP)

Not surprised at all because this government is emulating everthing that China is doing although proclaiming themselves as a five star democracy. At least, Face Book is the only open forum to express one's opinion and views without hindrance and obviously those corrupt elements in the government might be itching to get rid of that as well, so that they can sail through with their activities without any hindrance.

Our Opposition Leader has failed to grasp the real attitudes of our young people. When they know what they do is wrong or at least not quite right, they might still do it out of habit but would not welcome encouragement from elders. Ranil has caught the wrong end of the stick to woo the support of young people. Do not think your talk about gold chains, bangles and gifts to loved ones will win young votes.

Is this a burning problem in the country to raise in the parliament ? This is a another example to show RW is a joker .

Ranil has been mislead by somebody as usual, the content of the speech made by HE was something else. Speech was done at Panadura Sumangala Balika prize giving, and it was done purely as an advice to the children.

This is not a big deal at all paying this much of consideration in this regard. We people better focus on material matters. I do not know why our government is so concerned about this. May be this is to distract some other probs.

I think Mr. Wickramasinghe needs to fear bigger things that the Government is eyeing rather than a social media network.

Blocking face book is a human right violation. Face book is a good and useful community network. Some youths use this in bad way. That is their own fault.

A Parent living outside Sri Lanka talking. This is the attitude of our patriots. They and their kith & kin enjoy all the freedom in western countris. But when it comes to Sri Lanka, they want it to be Taliban rule under Chinese control

Why Ranil worried only about FB by leaving major issues ignored.
Lanka enews attacking more on Sajith than the government.
