Renovation work in Colombo completed-CMC



The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) said that renovation work carried out for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meting (CHOGM) had been successfully completed.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, CMC Commissioner Badrani Jayawardene said that around 99 per cent of the work had been completed.
“I can say that around 99 per cent of the work is completed. We found out in certain areas there are few work to be done but apart from that everything has been completed,” she said.

She said that work was yet to be completed in Maitland Place and in Viharamahadevi Park.

Apart from that there were few issues with regarding to blocking of the drains.

Jayawardene said that all sixteen Departments that were under CMC were working continuously to improve the city conditions.
“All sixteen departments under CMC work in preparing the city for the CHOGM. Civil Defense Force and the department of prisons also contributed a lot,” she said.

The Commissioner said that during the summit the CMC undertaking the fire coverage.

“The CMC will be undertaking the fire coverage and other safety measures. Also we have completed fogging for mosquitoes,” she said.
When Daily Mirror inquired about funds for these beautification projects she said that apart from the funds allocated by the CMC they received Rs. 100 million from the Provincial Council and also funds from Metro Colombo Urban Development Project for development work carried out in Viharamahadevi Park.

“We did not receive the requested amount from the government yet, but we were informed that the money would be given,” she said.(Chathushika Wijeyesinghe)
