A broad national policy for the betterment of the country will be put to Parliament after obtaining President Maithripala Sirisena’s approval by the United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG) which emerged victorious at the general elections.
Ranil Wickremesinghe, who would take oaths today as Prime minister of the UNFGG government told a media briefing at Temple Trees today that a national policy that addressed main issues that the country faced would be worked out with broad consensus of all parties.
Mr. Wickremesinghe said he would immediately start discussions with the President and all other political parties on a national policy.
Answering questions fired at him by the international media on the foreign policy including ties with India and China, he said all these would be included in the national policy that would be discussed and decided upon.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake who briefed the journalists said the UNFGG would obtain a comfortable majority in Parliament shortly.
An optimistic Mr. Karunanayake said the party could even muster a two-thirds majority. (Yohan Perera and Darshana Sanjeewa)

To accomplish his goals we also need to do our jobs accordingly. To be productive , have values and respect each other. Also not to expect free handouts from the govt. We should earn it !

Yes Sir, you are right. You also need to get rid of this "preferential vote" which is a pain for all. This has to be top priority. For my president to get a 2/3 majority in parliament is not a problem now as he has the backing of a stable majority government.

The first issue to be addressed is ensuring that all those who robbed or abused power to gain money or favours from women, be brought before courts to ensure that in future there will be no looters of national wealth.

I would like to recall and mention this over and over, again and again that no National Policy connected with Devolution or Separatism or Sef Determination or Land/Police powers to be discussed or included as National Policies.Mahinda RajapaKsha and UPFA must clearly issue an statement that even 13 amendment is also not considered as there is no ethnic issue in Sri Lanka. Develop areas equally, create opportunities for youths, make reasonable Cost of living in line with the income of the masses, develop modern educational standards as these are the solutions for the burning problems of Sri Lanakans as a whole. We caution anybody start talking about non-existing ethnic problems in Sri Lanka.
