The Sabaragamuwa University has been closed indefinitely from 9am today, Vice Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University, Prof. Mahinda S. Rupasinghe said.

He added that the students were not attending lectures since 23rd of February calling for the reinstatement of 58 students who were expelled due to ragging newcomers. All students have been informed to vacate the University hostels by today, Prof. Rupasinghe said.

Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) Convener Sanjeewa Bandara told Daily Mirror that a about 2000 students are currently being surrounded by the anti-riot squad before the university premises. (LP & GS)

I dont think that the University Authorities should bow down to this nonsense. Ragging and thuggery should not have a place in the halls of higher education.

"We will fight to release the students. They did not do anything wrong" this is the argument of the students. Btw, are the studnet counsellors fools?? they caught each and every student who were suspended, while they were doing ragging.
Deciplenary committie, took actions against the students according to the UGC circulars, SL justice acts.
No one cant blame the university or the academics. People and some media always tries to benifit from giving wrong information to public.
University does not need to give a press conference to public about the situation. though they can challenge the students in the courts if they proceed. final decision will be all 58 students have to go through their punishments. Will they??

Authorities should not bow down to this demand. Despite being warned many times they raged the juniors and then they should face the consequences. I am sure JVP is right behind this agitation as they use the rag to their advantage in many ways.

Art is science, science is Mathematics and Mathematics is everything. But does it means we have to close all the faculties in the t world who are teaching other than Mathematics ?
We just need to revisit our syllabus and make our students stand for the future.
Go get yourself a degree first and then you will understand !!!
