Sathyagraha called off
The Sathyagraha which was to be staged by four newly elected UNP members of the Chilaw Pradeshiya Sabha and the Urban Council was called off after a discussion with Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the UNP Headquarters Sirikotha today.
The Sathyagraha was to be staged by in front of the Party headquarters ‘Sirikotha’ against the failure of the party to appoint a group leader and a whip for the council.
It was called off following the assurance given by Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe assured that the vacant posts would be filled.
UNP MPs Palitha Range Bandra and Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene had participated in these discussions according to sources.
Appolo Raj, Leslie Fernando, J. M. Nameez and Chamara Nishantha are the Pradeshiya Sabha members who were the members of the Sathyagraha.
Accordingly J. M. Nameenz is to be appointed as the opposition leader of the Pradeshiya Sabha while Chamara Nishantha will be appointed as Chief opposition whip. Kingsley Priyadasa is to be appointed as the chief opposition whip of the Urban Council. (Yohan Perera)
