Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, who was released on a special presidential pardon on Monday, is to form a new political party named, ‘Democratic Party’ led by him, MP Jayantha Ketagoda said.
“We have already forwarded the application to the Elections Secretariat for registration and awaiting its approval,” said Mr. Ketagoda, who is the Chairman of the party.
He also said MP Arjuna Ranatunga and Anoma Fonseka will be the Co-Deputy Leaders of the Party while Tiran Alles will act as the General Secretary.
Mr. Ketagoda said that other officials would be named once the registration process was completed. (Indika Sri Aravinda)

Let him enjoy the freedom for sometime.
Those who gave him all sort of dreams and made him contest last time, did not go to jail with him and now are starting again.
He can wait to take decesion as first thing is to ensure he will be safe to do any activities.

Forming a political party is easy but wining those odds and becoming a political leader is a challenge. Especially at this moment if any political party speaks about the national problem they will be labels as pro LTTE party by the public.
In particular, if he wants to win over the trust of public he should not bring in his immediate family members.
He has to address openly how he is going to address the North-East issue. That makes his gesture different from the rest.

Thats good a timely need.
Right now there is no strong opposition which is much needed to a democratic country like our. Its not to topple the government. But to advocate the stream line. Lets wish you all the best.

Great move.
Sri Lanka is hungry for honesty in politics.
Economic and social justice, human rights, true democracy, media freedom, corruption, nepotism, rule of law are all major issues for almost all Sri Lankans.
Change must happen.
