Mahela Jayawardene scored an unbeaten 103 as the Sri Lankans utilised the batting powerplay to perfection and reached 274 for 6 in 50 overs. Thisara Perera (22 off 9 balls) was unbeaten with Jayawardene at the end, having added 26 for the seventh wicket off 12 balls.

Jayawardene's hundred came off 84 balls and he ended with 103 off 88 balls with 13 fours and added 66 for the sixth wicket with Nuwan Kulasekara, who was run out off the last ball of the 48th over for a brilliant 32 off 30 balls with a six and a four off Zaheer Khan.

Harbhajan Singh bowled opener Tillakaratne Dilshan for 33, immediately after the latter had completed 500 runs in this edition of the ICC World Cup.
