SL plane in emergency landing
A Sri Lankan Airlines plane travelling from Colombo to Heathrow was forced to make an emergency landing at Stansted Airport in London, police said.
Two British nationals were arrested on suspicion of endangering the A330 Airbus which was carrying 267 passengers and crew.
Essex Police boarded the aircraft shortly after 19:30 BST and arrested the pair. The remaining passengers were taken to a reception centre and were due to be transferred to Heathrow.
A spokesman for Stansted said: "A Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus A330 diverted into Stansted at approximately 19.30 this evening [Friday]. The aircraft, which was flying from Colombo to Heathrow, landed safely with Essex Police in attendance"
"The airport is open and flights are arriving and departing as normal"
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “police officers boarded the plane and arrested two men on suspicion of endangering an aircraft. The passengers have been removed safely. Enquiries are ongoing." (BBC)

Essex Police this morning said the investigation was a criminal matter rather than a terrorism inquiry
Both arrested men, aged 49 and 57, are British nationals, Essex Police said.
The 49-year-old is being treated for a medical condition, not an injury, in hospital.0 0

one of my family members was on this flight and I had to go from home to heathrow to stansted to pick them up. now we have to go to heathrow to pick up the luggage.
British national doesn't necessarily mean 'white' you know? And trust me, MANY MANY Sri Lankan ministers have dual nationality with the UK - including their children. And some of them are the most vocal 'patriots' that are utter hypocrites in that sense.
Actually, I know which ethnicity the two arrested are of, but i will leave it a mystery because it's amusing to see the comments made my presumptuous arrogant fools! :)0 1

Sigh of relief it is a false alarm. I don't think security in Katunayake airport is at it's best. I bordered to a different flight last night and so saw many chaos and lapses in the security.

Sri Lankan Air is one of the best air line in the world as i know i have traveled many times .Pilots are very professional and experienced specialy Sri Lankan orignin pilots . They know how to land safely and touch the land smoothly without dropping the Plane . I am highly confidant about Sri Lankan Air line than Emiirates-
