Soft drink kills toddler

A one and half year old toddler died and the mother of the child is in critical condition after they consumed two soft drinks bought from a shop in Wellawaya by the father, Moneragala hospital sources said

The child who was in critical conditioned died yesterday while the mother is currently being treated at the Moneragala hospital. It is reported that the father had bought the two drinks from a shop in Wellawaya and handed over the drinks to the mother who fed the child and had shared one with a neighbor’s child. All three had then complained feeling nausea and dizzy after which they were hospitalized.

The Magisterial inquiry into the child’s death is scheduled for today. The police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Sumanasiri Goonatilleke –Moneragala)

If the drinks purposely poisoned authorities must take stun action against the trader. We had same type of an insident before a month if i am not mistaken. Traders must keep the soft drinks in proper storage. This is what Doctor. Kariyawasam advice to the traders and aired yesterday's news.

No basic health, safety & hygenic standard are set or maintained. Once we found a straw in a sealed bottle in a famous soft drink. The funniest this was that the restaurant received a free case of the same drink when complained to the company and the manager of the restarant was happy. This is SL.

Thats not the point. The mother is crictically ill too, and the other felt nausea. We dont have proper health or safely SOP.
