Chennai: The central crime branch police on Thursday arrested a Sri Lankan national for the possessing fake credit cards and indulging in illegal business for the past seven months. Police suspects that the culprit may also have manufactured and supplied fake credit cards.
Vijay Kanth (29), a resident of Valasaravakkam, on Thursday went to buy a computer from a company in Fountain Plaza in Egmore. The shopkeeper suspected him, as all his credit cards were rejected for lack of balance in the account. He alerted the Axis bank risk control team, who rushed to the place and enquired with Vijay Kanth. On checking his credit cards, they found that the credit cards had data of foreign nationals. The risk control manager of Axis Bank Ashok Kumar alerted the police. A CCB team picked up Vijay Kanth and questioned him.
Interrogations revealed that he had bought these credit cards from another person for Rs 5,000 per card. Police teams then made a detailed search at his house and recovered 22 fake credit cards, a pen drive that contained 500 data of foreign credit cards, two swiping machines used by merchants, one laptop and an encoding machine, which can skim, read and write datas on the magnetic strip of the credit cards.
