Standard house number plates from CMC



The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is to introduce a standard plate with the house number on it for the City of Colombo and will provide the plates to householders and government and commercial establishments in the near future, said Colombo Mayor A. J. M. Muzammil, yesterday.

He said at a media briefing that 120,000 assessment number plates would be distributed to all homes, diplomatic missions and commercial establishments in Colombo 1 to 15.

The project according to him would be a private-public partnership in which the private sector partner, Richardson Outdoor Ltd would supply the number plates, while the CMC would provide gantries for advertising boards free of charge in return. The advertising company will use the gantries to put up advertisements and earn revenue.

The Mayor said Richardson Outdoor Ltd was chosen as a partner through a tender procedure uwhere tenders were called for from potential partners though the print media. “Richardson was chosen as theysubmitted the most favourable project proposal,” he said.

According to the plan, rectangular 6"x4" number plates will be provided to commercial establishments, 6"x6" oval ones to government buildings and diplomatic missions, 3"x4" oval ones to residences and 3"x4" rectangular ones to shops. (Yohan Perera)
