The Power and Energy Ministry today introduced a star rating system and Energy Conservation Label for electrical equipments including fluorescent bulbs, refrigerators, air-conditioners and fans in a bit to save a minimum Rs. 10 billion a year for the CEB.

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said the energy saving electrical equipments will be sold with a star rating and energy conservation label to ensure their energy serving and eco friendly capacity under the supervision of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) that implements the project.

The earlier rating system had its own faults and the world trend for rating has changed. the new one it looks is for all lighting products with new definers for energy saving as done in many developed countries

One of educated, working, clean and forward thinking minister in recent politic.
Also should give this knowledge to rural areas though people in cities may know what this is but they are not.

CFC bulbs already have a an energy star rating. Any one can check that before buying. Isn't this re-doing what is already available ? (Like standardizing the already standard Sri Lankan time?)

definitely the best minister and i can't think of an equally focused one even in the UNP

he would have gone further if he had more liberal views on ethnic politics. glad that he has stopped making racist comments lately. perhaps he is learning...

Agree malkanthi, people vote for corrupt guys and useless ones and then complain.
In Colombo Wimal got over two lakhs of votes and duminda silva came second and champika was third.
If people have brains champika who had a proven track record, having done a super job with environment ministry, should have topped the list while wimal and duminda should have gone to the bottom of the list like Bogollagama.

Dear Minister, Please, please light up our main roads using solar technology, night driving is so annoying and blinding since most drivers have to use their head lights, halogens or extra lighting since most of our main roads do not have street lighting. Also introduce solar panels on all school, commercials buildings, parking lots, supermarkets, people into solar business should market these solutions widely.

its not easy to clear the CEB debts piled up over years due to the mismanagement by corrupt ministers.
hope you can clear the place and bring some order. there's no reason why CEB should become a loss making body if its run properly
