The state of emergency was extended by another month in Parliament a short while ago, receiving 102 votes in favour and 15 votes against. The United National Party (UNP) had voted against the extending of the state of emergency, together with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) while the Janath Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had been absent. Isn't the war on terror over in Sri Lanka? I thought the government said the war is over... So what do they want to show by doing this? If you want tourists to flock to Sri Lanka then stop extending it all the time. This is giving totally wrong signals. The true feeling of a country in peace will not be there as long as they continue to extend the state of emergency.

Dear Nille, Gov is not only fighting with LTTE but also with Tamil people. I think Emergency Regulations will be there until tamil live here. I think this is the hidden true fact.

This makes no sense! How can there be only 15 votes 'against,' if both the TNA and UNP voted against?

The opposing votes were 15 ? Do you mean to say that the combined votes of both the UNP and TNA amount to only 15 ?

What to comment now when the facts are such that we just held a premature Presidential election under emergency. Don't they care, don't they understand or haven't they seen?

In recent interview with BBC, Gota says SF does not require security because now the country in free from terror. Then why does the government need emergency?

We are least worried about extending emergency etc., as this is needed only to the Ministers and the President not for public.
