Stop Arrests: Narayanasamy to Lanka

Union Minister of State for Prime Minister’s office V Narayansamy asked the Sri Lankan navy to stop arresting Tamil fishermen as this will spoil the smooth progress of talks between the fishermen of the two countries.

At a press meet here, referring to the talks held between the fishermen of India and Sri Lanka in Chennai on January 27, he said that the talks had evolved conducive situation for an amicable solution to the issue. He said the continued arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen will hinder further progress of the talks, which may even result in snapping of the dialogue. The act of the Lankan navy needs to be condemned, he added further.

Answering a question on the Lok Sabha elections, Naryanasamy said that none had isolated the Congress in Tamil Nadu and the party will forge a strong alliance in that State.

Talks are on with parties, he said, and added that some may click and some may not and this ‘hide and seek’ game would continue till the elections.

He pointed out that no parties had formed any alliance in Tamil Nadu and all are in the process of talks.

Narayanasamy said that he had submitted a request letter to the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde seeking grant a of `25 crore, for strengthening the bomb disposal squad with well-trained manpower and modernisation of police control room.

The State government should also send a proposal for this so that the grant could be availed of, he further added.

Referring to the comments made by some political parties that the Congress was playing a drama on the bomb incident, he said that this showed the irresponsibility on the part of those political parties who were making such comments.(Indian Express)
