Thundershowers expected in drought hit areas
The Meteorology Department said today thundershowers were expected during the afternoon or evening in the drought prevailing Northern and Eastern parts of the country while monsoonal showers were expected in the southwestern parts of the country.
It said showers would occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. The showers will spread to the Northwestern province too.
The Department predicted that afternoon or evening thundershowers would develop at several places in the Eastern, North central and Uva provinces.
Temporary localized strong winds would occur during thundershowers while winds exceeding 60kmph were expected over the central hills and people were advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.(Ajith Siriwardana)
