The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today disputed the appointment of DIG Pujitha Jayasundare to the North. TNA parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran told Parliament that according to the Constitution a Deputy Inspector General of Police had to be appointed only in consultation with the Chief Minister this had not happened in the appointment of the new northern DIG.
“I have nothing against the gentleman appointed to the North. Yet, it is a devolved subject. A DIG has to be appointed with the concurrence of the Chief Minister. Similarly even the provincial chief secretary has to be appointed with the same concurrence. The NPC Chief Minister has asked for the removal of the chief secretary. The letter addressed to the executivehas remained unanswered for the past two months,” Mr. Sumanthiran said.
He also said that the party would bring a motion calling for the removal of the Governor as well.
It is also disputedthe appointment of DIG Pujitha Jayasundare to the North.
Sumanthiran said the Governor had accused the NPC of violating the Constitution by acting to set up separate departments for transport and housing. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)

PJ is a Sri Lankan and the North is still a part of SL so whats the big deal?? Will tamils in Wellawate also demand a tamil DIG?

Suq Madique Saturday, 14 December 2013 01:05 AM
Ignorant comment. Typical of tamils to only talk about what they don't have but never remember what they have been given. Seems they blindly follow what the pro-LTTE groups tell them to do.

Laws are there to safeguard the country and not allow anyone to divide it. Tamils here must think for themselves and learn to live as one and stop following the dictates of the Tiger proxies still hoping for their eelam.

Nothing to think about, this land will never be divided or allowed to be controlled by tamil nadu and the LTTE rump groups

We understand you are still longing for your eelam but do the rules say we have to hand over the north to the TNA so they can hand it on a platter to tamil nadu and the tiger proxies?

country as equals whose leaders too voiced for indipendance of Ceylon. The way you blame is that tamils are donkeys and they should dance as you like

Remove the Governor from the north!
Remove the chief secretary from the north!
Remove the DIG from the north!
Who to remove next?
Tamils will never achieve as long as these Tiger proxies lead them

hello , the above comments are totally irreverent to this matter , question is locally elected body should have consulted while appointing there DIG ,even if they consulted there is no tamill DIG to appoint its going so its going to be our sri lankan only so no one has to worry about separation becoz north have forgotten that only few in colombo only talking this for there own benefits .All we want this credibility and trust to unite our country

What TNA should realize is, that Sri Lanka is still one unitary country and the ruling Government controls the Armed Forces and Police Department. Hence, the Govt. elected by the people has the power vested on them to station Sri Lankan Police Officers and Army Commanding Officers in any province in Sri Lanka. If this is undigestible to any party including TNA they should pack their baggage and leave the counry to Canada, Australia, England, India, Russia etc where they can get what they wanted in the way digestible to them in their provinces given by the rulers of these countries. For sure Russia if it happened, will give them a part of Siberia with a temperature exceeding -50 degrees centigrade.

Manjula,
Most , if not all of the development in the north are by donor countries and not from the tax payers money.
Other point is are you sure that all govt MPs and ministers hands are clean- and not having houses etc elsewhere.

Sri Lanka is a one country belonging to all Tamil, Sinhalese and Muslims.
Whatever be our race, we should not oppose the actions taken by the government to avoid another bloody war in this island and protect all of us.
We do not need that bitter past, which TNA guys want pleaseeeeeee.

Northern people had enough with militarisation for last 30 years. What on earth still the government pushing the northern people with military way? Appoint any well regarded civilian servant for governor. These measures will help for reconciliation with all part of our country. Otherwise another war in future unavoidable.

I'm laughing in advance to see the reaction when a central govt. official suddenly transferred for taking orders from the office of provincial chief!
0 1
Manjula Saturday, 14 December 2013 01:34 AM
Remove all central gov check and balances, BUT keep using TAX money and borrowed money to develop North. Pump more money while TNA mPs use infrastructure to travel, meeting, partying and plotting, similar to the rest of the politicians in the country. How much development did LTTE do in Kilinochchi, the proxy capitol of elam? However, most of the big tigers or relatives were living in western countries. Very similar to JVP few years ago. Somawansa was in London and Wijeweera had many bungalows to hide. At the end, all this fight is to what is in their pockets. South or north. Same goal, different approach, one using race the other using Marxism.

DIG Pujitha Jayasundare is a duty concious impartial officer. Unlike other 8 provinces in Sri Lanka, North is a more complex province. Mr Vigneswaran should cooperate with the government. It looks that TNA protests on every appointment made by the government which is very unfair and unpleasant.

Pujitha is a police officer with a spine. You fools don't refuse him. He is transferred by southern politicians because he is
doing his duty at its best.

this people should understand that first thing they should do is get the trust of central government and latter ask for favors. im not praising the government. even we Sinhalese from south got so many issues with government. but what this politicians in north doing is to make a another war out of current situation, what ever indian does or their system is in-relevant for us in sri lana. this is a small country and they cant ask for part of it. i think time has come to kick away the current provincial system. sri lanka is event not big as a state of india. so why this small country need so many politicians, states, provinces . please look at the way Sinhalese, tamils, muslims live happily in colombo and western province.

The Govt: has to be mindful of under currents of separatism and violence by the tiger remnants in the future. Therefore the TNA must be responsible and do everything possible to win the confidence of the govt and to reassure the people that past history will not be repeated. It takes two to tango. TNA will have to work with the govt appointees for sometime till that confidence is strengthened to have genuine reconciliation.
