Heavy traffic had been reported in Borella area as one lane of Kinsey Road has been closed due to a protest march by the students of the Kelaniya University, police said.

The march is heading towards the University Grants Commission at Ward Place. (Ajith Siriwardana)

If only these students would exert as much effort to their studies instead of protesting, blocking the roads and wasting other peoples time.

It's easy for a stupid person like u to make a statement like this. may be u & your family are having everything that u need & u had to study... but these guys parents starve to send them to university & give them a education for inhuman ppl like u to put them down & make them feel like nothing.. I just feel soo dam sorry for ppl like u coz someday i hope u will have to go through the same thing that they are going through... till then shut ur crap up & put ur mouth where the sun does not shine.. I agree with Nodrog that these students should be kept off the main roads. Motorists pay good money for their fuel and vehicles. But lose millions in unnecessary engine wear and fuel wastage, not to mention their precious time in traffic jams.
The cost to the nation in non productive hours spent on the roads due to demonstrations by students is unpardonable. There is nothing to gain in shouting and screaming on the streets. Its the taxpayer who should be protesting. Not the students who are being sponsored by the hardworking people of this country. No one needs to starve. Education is free.

University students in any country can be known as responsible citizens (as all of them is over 18)who is studing for their higher or proffesional studies either self or state funded.Only srilanka and few other countries in the world are giving a totally free higher education system in state univercities In srilanka every one who passing a'levels from 3 s are eligeble to univercity selection but only 30% are selecting depend on the damn " z score" and others have to either self fund their studies or have to do jobs based on their qualifications. University students in srilanka should be more responsible and accountable to the state and to society since they are funding by the government and the poor tax payers of the country . And striking for "nothing" should not be done by them,wasting their valuable time and valuable time of other people. They not act as responsible citizens, and worse than the montisoori childen.
