The Sri Lankan government today issued a travel warning against those visiting Tamil Nadu in India, in the wake of recent events of intimidation towards Sri Lankan nationals visiting the Southern Indian state for religious and tourist purposes.
The Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry said that “the Government of Sri Lanka is constrained to request Sri Lankan nationals in the interest of their security to desist from undertaking visits to Tamil Nadu until further notice.”
It also said, “During the course of yesterday 184 Lankan pilgrims visiting the Poornimatha Church in Thanjavur have been mobbed and taken refuge in the church. The Government of Sri Lanka has taken all steps required through the Indian Government to seek the safety of these pilgrims. The Government of Sri Lanka regrets the increasing number of instances of intimidation on Sri Lankan nationals visiting Tamil Nadu for the purposes of tourism, religious pilgrimages, sporting and cultural activities and professional training. These visits are a reflection of people to people contact between the polity of two countries which are bound by the age old friendly ties and traditions.”
However, the Ministry said travel to all other states in India was safe for Sri Lankans.
The Ministry of External Affairs requests that in the event of a compelling visit Tamil Nadu, such a visit should take place following prior timely intimation to the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai, contact details of which are as follows:

SL needs India more than India needing SL. So learn to respect TN, it is part of India.
SL cannot think they can have good relations with India and continue maintain rough relations with TN

When UK issues a travel advice to its citizens about visiting SL we are outraged. When we issue an advisory about visiting TN the people there are not even bothered about it.

Dear Patriot,
From the responses you have got, it is quite obvious that most people only believes what the SL government says instead of finding the root cause of this issue. This is not new for us. Since the independence we have been seeing this unawareneess and unwillingness to find the facts, Denying will never help.

Not only has the MR regime got marginalised in the world, but today another achievment by MR where only the sinhalese have got further marginalised. It is a fact that muslims and tamils have no problem visiting TN. It is also a fact that this stand may flow to other states given the policies of the MR regime.

Also this is a testing time for the SL tamils. Now SLG can wisely check SL tamils can be trustworthy. Their reactions will decide the future actions. For your note, SL reduced forces in north just a month back. SLG could have gone for a solution. However SL tamils's reactions has to be monitored.

This warning was long overdue. Now we need to stop the petty Indian businessmen who come on a weekly basis from coming with MERCHANDISE without duty. Slap em with duty, let's see how things work. ah they already signed the agreements for some 2000 odd items to be sent to SL duty free... ummm shortsightedness on the part of some politicians.....

Its so obvious that the state of Tamil Nadu doesn't want or like Sri Lankan's visiting there... So learn from this and not go there unless absolutely necessary...further it would be good for India's future relations with Sri Lanka to tame the natives of Tamil Nadu and to suggest they do something more worthwhile than just behaving like children Shame !!!

Actually this is a good consideration of Sri Lankan Government.
According to recent readers comments for the articals published in The Hindu and Times of India; Mejority of them adversely effective to SL.
Better refraining TN airports as well as TN for alll the purposes.
Also If we could stop or observe carefully the visitors from Tamil Nadu and Bangalore especially. As well as GOSL should incerase ties between GOI and its Opposition too.
