Two arrested for forging military documents

The police arrested two men who were printing letters by placing official stamps used by the Military and sending letters to residents of Vavuniya who are now living abroad, stating that they should come to military camps for further questioning.

The police said the letters had been used by those abroad to seek asylum in those countries. They also said that the suspects had sent letters saying people are being harassed by the military inside the camps and urging people living abroad not to come back to Sri Lanka again.

They had sent the letters to persons who were former residents of the Vavuniya District under the address, Joseph Camp, Kandy Road, Vavuniya.

The police warned that stern action will be taken against such individuals who are engaged in tarnishing the image of the country at an international level by saying that people in the North and East are suppressed by government forces.

The two men were working at the Vavuniya South Medical Officer’s office and were produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate today. (Supun Dias)
