At least two people were killed in while several low lying areas and roads in the Matara District inundated due to heavy rains, the Disaster Management Centre said.

Accordingly, the first death was reported from Kahawatta, where a person was buried alive after a mound of soil fell on to his house. And in Nonagama, Ambalantota one person was killed due to the collapsing of a wall of his house.

The DMC also said that due to the heavy rains, roads and low lying areas in Makandura, Ranchagoda and Ambalantota and Kumburipitiya were submerged.
