Uncertainty over boat's origin

The External Affairs Ministry said it was yet uncertain whether the boat that capsized en route to Australia originated from Sri Lanka. Media reports yesterday mentioned that the boat carrying the asylum seekers to Australia had originated from Sri Lanka.

Ministry spokesman Sarath Dissanaike told Daily Mirror there were conflicting reports about the nationalities on board. “We are not certain from where the boat originated while there are also conflicting reports whether Sri Lankans were on board. We are awaiting further details,” he said.

Mr. Dissanaike said the Sri Lankan embassy in Indonesian confirmed that no Sri Lankans were found among those rescued from the tragedy.
