Audio: UNP bans MPs from attending SF’s rally

The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee said today it would take disciplinary action against party members if they participate in the United National Bikkhu Front organised mass rally which is also to be attended by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka on October 18.

However a collective decision had been made in the end to issue a notice forbidding members from attending this rally. However several UNP MPs including Karu Jayasuriya, Dayasiri Jayasekera, Palitha Range Bandara and Asoka Abeysinghe had confirmed their participation in the rally. (YP& HF)

This is 'Dog in the Manger policy by the UNP'. You won't do it and you will not allow others to do it as well. Bad times are ahead for the UNP, it being blind to see the readings on the wall.

Doesn't the UNP feel a united opposition is required at this time when the govt is bulldozing through on every issue and there is nobody to stand up on the burning issues faced by the people, such as taxes, rising costs, divinaguma bill, etc, etc?

pathetic situation is NO ONE is existing in UNP who can take

Of course he knows he'll never be president, but if he let go of his leadership in the opposition, he'll be nothing. That's why he's hanging on to that post with the help of MR so that he can enjoy the perks as the Leader of the Opposition for ever. The agreement I guess is to help MR and vice versa.

UNPis acting foolishly I suppose they are scared that SF will come into power. These foolish UNP ers no future for them really unless they get together with SF. SF is the only hope

We know that Ranil doesnt want to form a government nor to be the presidnt. He wanted give away the path to Ruwan Wijewardena. If so we have to wait long time to oust present regime and ordinary citizen has to suffer until such time? Shame R.W. . Give a chance to S.F. or Sajith. and see, if they fails then give to Ruwan.
