Kiris Baba Amaray Friday, 27 September 2013 10:53 AM
People will not tolerate further, before he is treated like Mervin Silva at "Rupavahini" he should quit the party and retire soon. Otherwise, with disgrace he has to go home.

Ranil doesn't have the charisma to run a political party . He just wanted to maintain his family pride by being there. Some body is funding heavily on him and his boys around. You need Manley looking leader not "baba hukung " boys

UNP is a Dinosaur. Which does not function as cooperate organisation. Working committee is full of RW cronies. Therefore to what you suggest is near impossibility unless these old cronies give up their rights to the working committee. If they voluntarily give up their rights what you suggest is a very good idea. Having said that will they have the guts to do any thing for UNP to move forward to the 21st century! I don't think so. (I have been a UNPer for over 43 years & will never turn coat)

Dear Harin, not significant it has to be major change! Send Ranil out and appoint Sajith as the UNP leader and see the drastic changes. Definitely UNP will be on winning note from their onwards. Believe me. If not you will be in the same chair and we too will suffer until Ranils final RIP.

Yes but he is not suited for Sri Lankan Politics.
Unless some invasion takes place and Ranil is appointed as the President of this country. He will not be an elected president however much we want him to be...

Mervin silva Friday, 27 September 2013 06:18 AM
May be all of them want Sajith! When R. Premadasa was running the country, we all know what Sajith did. He was unsucessful of finding the sword of king Dutugamunu. He is dam against the foreign interference to Sri Lanka because he knows very well what happened at father's time in this country. Who's biggest curse to country Ranil or MR?. I am not suprised about most of these comments. That is the Sri lankan style. They don't analyse anything.

First make the current leader a supreme leader without Powers, then appoint all parliament members , PC members as well as Pradseya sabaha members to the Executive committee. give them voting rights to choose the leader, Deputy Leader, National Organizer, Party president and Secretary. later the newly appointed Executive committee of 40members can choose with secret ballot rest of the Position. UNP has to change several more things. Mr sajith Premadasa should come to Colombo. Senanayaka family member should appoint to Dadigama. Each electroate should appoint 2Organizers and from this two better one should given the Nominations.

This is the same guy who said the UNP didn't lose the election. Why changes if the UNP hasn't lost its voter base? two tongued or three.
Different things on different days, little wonder why the UNP lot the 27th. These guys and the leader together can establish another Guinness record

Everyone in the UNP have their heads buried in the sand, how may elections have you got to loose to get rid of the leader. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work that out. Anything short of that is just a case of deluding yourself. Same results.

I complete agree without changing the leadership no point patching, UNP got only 4000 votes in Kurunegala district this indicate the extent of the deterioration.
The leader is good administrator once you win but for winning he is not the right person. If Ranil is not agreeing to giveup then better all of you leave and either joined the government and get some ministerial posts or leave GENERAL to improve his base and fight with Mahinda .WITH RANIL UNP WILL NOT WIN. All the best for the changes.

True there should be change in leadership no doubt, but who? The way UNP worked since President Premadasa's death created a leadership vacuum to such an extent there is no natural leader at this moment of time known to the general l public. If UNP is going to change from RW to any other from the present lot mark my word it is going to be a bigger disaster. There will be more infighting and undercutting at the end of the day people will say solution worse than the problem. The best would be to take a honest stock of the situation have a brainstorming session facilitated by a third party professional and come out with a list of strategies on a priority basis. Then tackle the each issue with a definite time scale I am certain that if it is done properly then from the very process a natural leader will emerge, then rally round him. Till then hope for the best.

RW get your retirement skates on go to the yonder as they say. Get the old cronies also to retire - form a elders advisory council as patrons. Let the young blood choose their destiny by electing a leader by majority vote. Once established UNP will be invincible!

Dissolve the leadership with working committee. Have a fresh election in fair manner to chose new leader. First democracy to be establish within the party before talk for country. Simple formula. UNP can come back strongly.

fernado Thursday, 26 September 2013 11:36 AM
you are correct sir, we need drastic need of the change in UNP attitude towards Poor and young people of Sri-Lanka. The Leadership change is not because that RW is bad person but after a severel defeats there must be young blood. He could have become more powerful leader if his attitudes changed. UNP must organize from top to the bottom and more aggressive politis ask people from UNP. at the moment we have DIYARU type politics compare to the SLFP. Ranil and his people around him did n,t understand the value of People like Dayasiri jayasekara. But MR has that sense.

Raju Thursday, 26 September 2013 11:36 AM
There is nothing UNP can do until they admit their mistakes in the past including their behaviour during the war. UNP should disassociate themselves from agenda of the west and diaspora and work for the goodness of the country. After all they should behave as the alternate government without levelling allegations which they themselves cannot hold if they form a government. They should drift away from any affiliation with JVP or DNA. UNP by itself has enough strength to stand on its two feet to form a government if only they have a pure Sri Lankan policy. After all by destroying the country with the help of western countries they will not have a country to govern someday.

Justin Fernando Thursday, 26 September 2013 11:39 AM
Ranil is a good worker not a politician for a country like Sri lanka. But Sri lanka needs a leader who can communicate effectively with grass root level people. UNP must organize village level action groups to educate, motivate people.By holding election rallies will not work.We experience that in 1977 election.Only Sajith Premadasa can bring village level people back to UNP.UNP needs a presidential candidate like Ranil but need a organiser like Sajith.Mangala also a good person to develop UNP.Unity is the key to win an election with a proper leadership
Good Luck UNP

Sack all UNP members leaving Ranil and golayas. Then real UNP can be formed with a different name. Or create a new party called 'Henduwa' and ask Ranil to join that party.

There is a absolutely no need to burn midnight oil and split hairs. The solution is very simple: Get a new leader and a fresh working committee and go for it, if the UNP is still to survive in this environment.
