United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said today his party would come out strong against the government because the people complained that the opposition was ineffective in its campaign against the soaring cost of living.
He gave this assurance when traders of the Delkanda weekly fair met him at the UNP headquarters Sirikotha.
Mr. Wickremesinghe said he decided on this course of action after he heard the woes expressed by a woman he met recently. He said this woman with two children said people were not getting any relief when it came to the cost of living although the opposition kept talking about it in Parliament and elsewhere.
“I felt very sad when I heard of this woman’s plight,” he said.
He said if the government did not take measures to improve the economy and turn it round by November the UNP would take to the streets to showcase the party’s displeasure.
