The United States today commended the Sir Lankan government’s efforts in resettling most of those who were internally displaced by the fighting in the country.
“I commend the Government’s efforts in resettling most of those who were internally displaced by the fighting US Ambassador in Colombo Patricia Butenis said.
Praising the Sri Lanka Army and the local and international INGOs for successful demining operations in the country, she said “due to the heroic efforts of the Sri Lankan Army and Sri Lankan and international demining organizations, large swaths of the North and East are now cleared of mines. However, much work still remains and our continuing support will enable the process to be completed more quickly.”
“Demining is an essential element of this resettlement process. The mines have meant that people can’t return to their homes, that farmers can’t plant and harvest crops, that villagers have to worry about explosives in water wells, and that children can mistake a mine for a toy,” she said in a statement after donating five ambulances to the Sri Lanka Army in Colombo.

Yes at least you have to eat humble pie after summoned by the external affairs ministry and now do damage control after the weekly leaks exposures. Sri Lanka has her friends in the likes of China, India, Russia and the non aligned countries, and you are aware of your inability influence any outcome, other than preach about the need to undertake a human rights probe, for which the government responded with a pinch of salt. Yes there is no alternative other than to praise our Army and the government

Under pressure from within their administration to rectify the relationship. It is highly unprofessional for a US diplomat to make such blatant statements against other governments without any hard evidence. They have to strike a balance between both Tamil voter backed human rights parties and SL government. US does not want us to fall 100% in to China's hands. If they dont want anything from us they would have closed the embassy to save costs. Do you think they maintain deplomatic relationships with us becuase they love us and care about us?

What an acrobatic tactic. This is what we call the western double standard attitude. The praise in the words of US ambassador in nothing but hypocrisy.

Instead of gloating, we should take this in good faith because we need the US more than they need us. Let the past be forgotten.

Thank you. I am sure the Afghan people will also thank you if you could do the same in Afghanistan and if you could stop killing innocent Afghans as unlike in Sri Lanka no one can charge you for war crimes. Please remember what the Afghans are doing to you is what they did to the Russians which was encouraged by you and you accused the Russians of HR violations. Hahahaha this comes to save face in regard to wikileaks. She is a snake under the grass and a Persona Non Grata. Expel her or ask the State Dept to recall her. If she is allowed to stay here, she will hatch loads of underground plans to discredit the govt and ultimately Sri-Lanka.
