The US Embassy in Colombo said it ‘had nothing to do with the recent inflammatory video that has offended many Muslims and others around the world’.
Issuing a statement the embassy said:
“The US embassy wishes to reiterate the expressions issued by Secretary Clinton and President Obama regarding the recent inflammatory video that has offended many Muslims and others around the world. It should be noted that the United States strongly rejects both its contents and messages, and had nothing to do with the video. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others.
As a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, the United States believes that religious tolerance is essential to the stability of any nation and of any people. Among the fundamental rights we also hold closely is the right to peacefully protest. As Secretary Clinton has said, “we also fully reject hatred and violence in the name of religion.”
The embassy wishes to thank officials, religious leaders, and community leaders in both Sri Lanka and Maldives for the many expressions of sympathy and condolences over the losses of our colleagues in Libya and for their calls for calm and restraint.”

Freedom of speech / Freedom of expression can never be used to insult religious scripts, religious leaders, or the religion as a whole. Irrespective of their religion, any moderate human being should stand up against blasphemy carried out under the mask of freedom of speech with a pure intention to insult religions.
I, as a Muslim thoroughly condemn any activities to insult religions and religious personalities, let it be Muhammed (PBUH), Jesus (PBUH) or Lord Buddha. Because my religion teaches me to respect other religions and their religious belief and to stand up against injustices.

If one American makes a movie telling the truth about islam all muslims blame America and want to lynch Americans. So when thousands of muslims are involved in terrorist attacks, from Thailand, to India, to Indonesia, to Russia, Spain, etc, we are told that they have nothing to do with islam. Double standards! I will be called a hate-monger and 'racist' for saying this.

A Sinhala poet in the 60s wrote 'Vidyawa nemethi hathura' set of peoms, I really wish people read that beautiful, meaningful poems to understand how simply science is destroying us.

You are well brain-washed by western media. Since, you watch their TV channels, hear their radio, and read their version of story. Keep you eyes blind, and one day when truth befalls on you, you shall be surprised.
If you are really interested in 'what kind of religion is this', then read Qura'an. Hope you would be guided.

Readers should access alternative media other than the western dominated, Jewish- controlled one that is predominant, in order to form opinions about world affairs. It has been a fact that the West has always strived to sow disunity among Muslims in order to expropriate Middle Eastern oil and prop up the illegal expansion of Zionist Israel. Those who only see scraps of misinformation should educate themselves first, before shooting their mouths off...

It is a known fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Zionists and others will invest more on media to tarnish the name of Islam and confuse people to understand Islam. No matter what they do, Muslims have the responsibility to do more Dawah and educate non-Muslims about Islam, as soon as the truth enters into open hearts, they will understand what Islam is all about and why 2.8 billion people are following Islam.

Nimal, there are Muslims who insult Islam and Buddhists who insult Buddhism. The important thing is to understand how The Lord Buddha or the Prophet Mohamed would react. This needs an in depth study of Religion from original sources. It is with this knowledge that we must try to change the erring masses. If you get your info from dharmadveepaye blogspot you will bark up the wrong tree and be like the misguided Muslims only with a different brand name.

Chinthaka when the priest removed his 'sivura' and exposed his genitals at the Mosque at Dambulla was it an exhibition of Buddhism? When the mob organized by chief
priests desecrated the so called shrine at Anuradhapura was it Buddhism? What a noble character The Lord Buddha displayed, and are these ruffians doing justice to the great master and the Dhamma? No religion has 100% of adherents following according to the pure pristine texts! All religions have been usurped by opportunists, politicized and commercialized. Learn to study and appreciate religion from original sources and you will end up a much better person.

You seem to have bought into this adage that Islam is the fastest growing religion etc. Figures prove its not so. Its not by conversion, who wants to convert to violence? They breed profusely. see Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh , Yemen etc. They just breed so their number increase. Mort muslims dream of a life in the West. 95% of asylum seekers are Muslims. Tyr to prove me wrong.

for those who cry "freedom of speech" should understand that under the constitutional provision and civic right of that powerful mandate to the people also comes responsibility, accountability, rule-of-law, regulations and restrictions that one cannot shout "Fire" in a crowded cinema or shout "Kottiya Ennwa" in a manner that threatens public safety or system of belief. No where in the world is this possible. Not even in the USA.

Can you have an example where science has contradicted with Islam (Quran). there are so many scientific marvelous in Quran and nothing has been falsified said about science in quran. As many people think Quran is not a book says go and fight and kill your enemies and other religion. It is the propaganda, You can find about medicine, science, family life, neighborhood, marriage, charity, politics, prayers, respecting other religion, good qualities, business, duty to others , education..etc and of course the about the war, in Quran. Rather than relying on these propaganda explore what is inside and come up with your own decision.

A country can not issue an irresponsible statement to say that it has nothing to do with what a citizen has done. If so Libiya should have been silence and said nothing about what their citizen had done to US ambassador, rather it apologized for the killing of US diplomats. US has to learn this ethics and had their deal this matter carefully this matter would not gone beyond the limit. US is not doing anything because victims are Muslims, had this happened to other than Muslims their action would have been different. However a Muslims always has to apply self restrain and should not let the emotion to mislead the entire community. Non violent protest is not a bad idea to express the injustice committed by the so called " World's Biggest Democracy"

No matter what they say or do, the name of our Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam will always be exalted. Whether they make cartoons or films depicting him in a negative way, his name will still be called 5 times a day all over the world. What has happened in Libya and what is happening in Egypt and elsewhere do not serve Islam and it is unislamic. These protests and hooliganism serve the enemy of Islam. They will never stop making fun of our religion and our religion will excel despite their efforts. Let us abide by our Quran and Sunnah and this is what hurts them most.

Spot on Mr Hussain! The movie was directed by an Israeli and not an American. Now is the time for Muslims to prove that their religion is one of peace by remaining calm. As long as one practices ones religion you should not let these incidents bother you. There will always be someone to criticize no matter what.

They burned our Quran; but We respect all holy books.
They insult our Prophet; but we love all prophets of god.
They insult our Islam; but we respect other religions.
That is what islam taught us.
They try hard to destroy islam. They tag freedom fighters as terrorists. They use their media to promote hatred.
Open up your eyes; Lets understand the reality without western media eyes.
They will try their level best; But, Islam will be protected by almighty until the day of judgement. Research quran. Your questions will be answered.
Also lets not promote their cheap marketing strategies of a dirty movie. but these events make my faith stronger and stronger.
