Warning to cricketers unfair – UNP

The main opposition UNP said the warning issued to the Sri Lankan cricketers participating in the IPL tournament in India was unfair while it is a clear sign of politicization of the game.
UNP MP Harin Fernando told a press conference today that it is unfair to pressurize the Sri Lankan cricketers. He said this kind of exposure is essential for the Sri Lankan cricketers to improve themselves.
Mr. Fernando therefore defended the Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan who said it was unfair for the sports Ministry to order the Sri Lankan cricketers who are participating in the IPL tournament to come back to Sri Lanka
Besides he said this is also an act of revenge as the Sri Lankan Ministers had to stay in the queue to get into the stadium to view the World Cup finals in India recently.
He also called for a probe into the World Cup ticket scandal where the tickets for the fixtures that were played in Sri Lanka were sold for exorbitant prices out side. “Those who are responsible should be brought to book, “he added.
He said politics caused Sri Lanka the World Cup this year. (Yohan Perera)
