The main opposition UNP today asked whether the government would allow the UN Panel, which expressed willingness to visit Sri Lanka, to meet former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella told a news conference that the government should make a clear decision on the matter, as the former Army Commander had expressed his readiness to answer any international panel without bringing any harm to the country or the security forces. (YP)

To Sri Lankan, That is what exactly SF said. War was not won by MR and his thugs. It was done by our heroic forces lead by SF.

Stinks or not is immaterial. To catch a fish, the water must be disturbed. The biggest fish are normally in troubled waters.

Will SF behave like a gentleman? Or will he use polite language which is lacking? Or would he go on with smelling foul language his normal characteristic with UNP coaching to betray the country? These are the 64 million dollars question before giving him any chance!

@Hulaswatte, you are correct. I also has the same question. srilanka has about 200,000 army personals. There were about 30,000 army either disabled or died in last war. How can we say, SF won the war lonely. Then what is the credit for those 30,000 solders have. Does the 100% credit should go to SF? I think SF should be given about 10% of the credit of war.

Hey Did not do alone. It was a team effort led BY MR & coordinated by GR.Sf led only
the army which were supported by Air force,Navy,Police & civil defence force. If they had not supported army would have not moved single inch.
But one thing sure among the peopl of that winning team only sf betrayed the county by saying white flag story..

@ Hulaswatte - No one is a Saint & yes he didn't win the war alone. It was a collective effort by all forces & the men that fought. In a war it is people in command in ALL armed forces that draw out strategies, etc. So show the man some respect. Before, he was praised for what he did during the war by ALL Sri Lankans.
If the UN panel isn't allowed to speak to him this would then make him a political prisoner.

H, I keep wondering about it all the time! Irrational, illogical, against all national or local interests to go on this way. But people do. I guess their hatred for Mahinda, for whatever, class, race, whatever reason trumps logic. All the time. Its like SF has given these people some 'ina beheth'

Sri Lanka is a democracy. We dont need to prove such things to anyone. Especially to the US which is not a real democracy anyways.

The question should be will the US allow Mr. Bang Ki moon TO SEE Gen. mac Alister for an Interview. Mr. editor, are you a citizen of this county or are you a tourist. Shame on you for fishing in troubled waters. Your demeanor stinks to the high heavens.

There is one thing that im struggling to understand, why people in SL are crazy about SF? People should think that he didnt win the war alone and he is not a saint. SF was stupid to enetr politics very early by listing to others who used him.

Why should the govt allow SF to meet the Panel, knowing it will get into more trouble if new information on war crimes come out?
8 5
Neomal Tuesday, 21 December 2010 01:45 AM
The Govt will OK this, just to save face. Then they will do something to ensure that he does not meet the panel.
