Woman cheats bank 22 times

A woman was arrested for cheating Rs.1.7 million by pawning fake gold chains, rings and items with the Nandawur Rural Development Bank.

Police said that she had committed the crime at least 22 times from November 1 last year till last Friday.

Police media spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said that the suspect was arrested after the manager informed the police after he noticed that the gold chains and rings were looking suspicious. The suspect is a resident of Nandawur area.

The suspects are to be produced before the Samanthurai Magistrate and the Samanthurai Special Crime Investigations Unit are conducting further inquiries into the incident, SP Jayakody said.  (Daily Mirror online)
