The Chinese government announced yesterday that the first batch of more than three million meters of school uniform cloth for Sri Lanka has been freighted from Shanghai, China, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said.

They said the consignment of uniform cloth worth Rs.5 billion will be a gift to millions of Sri Lankan students to meet 70% of the whole country's requirements in 2023.

The shipment will arrive at the Colombo Port on January 6, 2023.

The first batch consists of 3012596. 5 metres of finished cloth consisting of 38,000 packs in containers have left for Sri Lanka.

The school uniform cloth consists of 237,447.5 meters of shirt/frock - White, 350031.5 meters of trouser - white, 350031.5 meters, 150003.5 meters of trouser - blue and 138134 meters of robe-orange in colour 138134 meters. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Looks like China is not only gifting School Uniform, BUT also clothing for the MONKS - So is this a new deal with the monks for something bigger. No country gifts something without seeking something in return. ALSO one can only hope these CHINESE AID is not sold in the local market by our so called politicians to make a profit BUT will be distributed to the school kids.

Lol. So basically we are nation who totally depends on other countries to just show off. If we are not able to provide the school uniform locally we should go for an alternative solution as other countries will not give uniforms free every time. My suggestion is we should let children wear anything decent and durable. Also shoes should be made optional which are costly for many.What matters is studying some how. It is high time we elect a young guy with experience as the president and also members of parliament. Time to start a go home 50 plus politician and stop giving nominations for grand fathers campaign.

Local textile manufacturing company can make total qty of this school uniforn last 10 years they done it And its having more befited to the contry Manufacturers invested and increased capacity Our country was self-sufficient in cloth production But now, due to our political decisions, school uniforms are not even produced in this country

I was watching a program in Aljazeera online on a Iraqi women visiting South Korea where a South Korean women says there is very little natural resources in the country but a lot of people so the Koreans educated their people and created a modern technology economy.
