50kg urea bags for 71,000 farming families in 7 districts: Minister



The Agriculture Ministry is to distribute 50kg bags of urea fertilizer each among 71,000 farming families in seven districts.

The announcement was made during an official event organized at the Hambantota Bata Atha Agricultural Park to hand over urea fertilizer and agricultural equipment to the ministry.

As such, farming families who grow paddy in lesser than ½ hectares of land in seven districts, including Polonnaruwa, Hambantota, Badulla, Ampara, Matale, Puttalam and Kurunegala are eligible for this free urea fertilizer bags. 

The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) will officially hand over Rs. 15,000 million worth of urea fertilizer and agricultural equipment to the Agriculture Ministry tomorrow (22), as a subsidy to the farmers this year.

The EU has announced the support needed to provide high-quality seeds to the paddy farmers to promote parachute paddy cultivation system, which has been introduced as a new mode of cultivation to obtain higher yield. Minister Amaraweera said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
