Two suspects have been arrested with six illegal high-powered motorbikes valued over Rs.40 million in Weliweriya.

The high-powered motorbikes were found to be above the permitted engine capacities in Sri Lanka. The suspects had imported parts of the bikes and assembled them at a garage to be sold later, it was reported.

We can't seem to send a parcel of gifts or food to Sri Lanka without it being stolen or tampered with by customs. But these illegal bike parts made it out? How? This is corruption exposed. Sri Lanka will always be Sri Lanka.

Why are decent motorcycles illegal in Sri Lanka? In the UK I can ride 1000cc bikes on the motorway (expressway) as long as I hold the appropriate licence. Why do I have to get an IDP and have it stamped to drive or ride in Sri Lanka when the skills required I have already learned and are superior to the driving abilities of Sri Lankan drivers and riders.

The government is looking to increase their revenue? They should allow the bikes and set the appropriate duty. Then it will not be illegal, people will be free to import and ride a bike of their choice subject to speed limits etc.

How do they get money? may be connected to Balu politicians! People are suffering without medicine and food - they people spend 40 million for a bike!! May be these bikes came by the sky - not through the proper channels!!
