Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa called for the determination of all Sri Lankans to end the dark period they have spent during the recent past as the Sinhala and Tamil New Year dawns on April 14, 2023.
May all citizens develop a determination to end the dark period they have spent during the recent past,” Mr. Premadasa wished in his New Year message.
He said the following in his message.
“Sri Lanka which had an economic system which was based on self-sufficiency had currently become a land of tears as people have lost the opportunity of celebrating the new year with joy and peace. Lifestyle of our people have been challenged lately,”.
“Sinhala and Tamil New year is a feast which sows the seeds of just qualities and values and a festival which brings national reconciliation. New Year is also a time where the people of this country pays tribute to nature in keeping with a long tradition closeness with the nature.
“New year dawned when people were facing various challenges during the last few years.
The only wish of the people is prosperity and wellness. It is essential to safeguard the ancient traditions associated with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year’’.
