Big match vehicle parade claims two lives, injures seven

Two students were killed and seven others injured after a cab toppled during the vehicle parade held in view of the big match between Uva Paranagama Maha Vidyalaya and Dharmadutha College this afternoon, Police said.

The injured were admitted to the Badulla Hospital.

The accident occurred when the vehicles paraded around the ground during the match.

Badulla police are conducting further investigations. (Prasanna Padmasiri)

These big match vehicle parades are a real nuisance. They block the roads for several hours with scant respect for other road users especially for Ambulances. It's not innocent fun but display of sheer arrogance.

These vehicle parades are not banned because of elite sons in Royal are doing it , so the others are following them. The teenagers get big kicks when in a group with freedom to anything.

Another reckless behaviour resulted in death. I am sure someone without a valid licence would have driven this cab. Police has to be strict with errand drivers.
